Benguela: doctors in service paralyze services for four days in solidarity with battered colleague

The Provincial Union of Doctors of Benguela announced that it will suspend medical services from Friday to Monday, in solidarity with a colleague who was attacked by the relatives of a patient who died.

In a repudiation note, the doctors expressed "profound dissatisfaction" with the case, which took place on Tuesday, at the Hospital Geral de Benguela, with the doctor António Dungula, who was called to help a patient due to the worsening of his health. .

"With great sadness, there were no successes in the process of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, leading to death", says the note, noting that it was the responsibility of the doctor who assisted the victim to inform family members about what had happened.

"Dr. Caluasse did not do any different, and, therefore, poorly informed the family, they started moral and physical aggression against the doctor, culminating in facial trauma", stresses the note.

For this reason, the doctors underlined, the National Union of Doctors of Angola (Sinmea) in Benguela came to "vehemently repudiate such an act, with such indecorousness on the part of those who practice it".

"For this reason, it was decided to suspend medical services, from the 24th to the 27th, guaranteeing the emergency services. In solidarity with our colleague and for other cases that have happened," the note reads.

Doctors ask the competent authorities agility and seriousness in complying with the punishment of aggressors.

"If justice is not done as such, we intend to move towards stricter attitudes, increasing the time of stoppage without a determined date", said the doctors.
