Remittances by portuguese emigrants in Angola fall 13.1 percent in July

Remittances from portuguese emigrants in Angola fell 13.1 percent in July to 30 million euros, while angolans working in Portugal sent 880,000 euros, representing a rise of almost 45 percent, according to official figures.

According to the latest data from the Bank of Portugal, consulted this Wednesday by Lusa, portuguese working in Angola sent 30.03 million euros, down from 34.5 percent sent in July last year, and also below the 33.7 million sent in July 2019.

On the contrary, angolans working in Portugal sent 880,000 euros, which represents a 44.2 percent rise from the 610,000 euros sent in July last year.

As usual, the amounts from Angola represent almost all the remittances from the portuguese in the portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP).

Thus, emigrants in the PALOP countries sent 30.7 million euros, which represents a drop of 12.7 percent compared to the 35.2 million sent in July of last year.

Conversely, portuguese-speaking africans working in Portugal sent 3 million euros in July, representing a 5.3 percent drop from the 3.2 million sent in July 2020, in the middle of the pandemic.

Overall, remittances from portuguese working abroad rose 6.4 percent in July to 366.8 million euros, while immigrants in Portugal sent 43.3 million, down 2 percent from the same period in 2020.

The portuguese working abroad sent 366.8 million euros in July, which represents a rise of 6.4 in comparison to the 344.7 million euros sent in July of last year.

Still, the figure is below that recorded in July 2019, before the pandemic, a month in which the value of remittances was above 370 million euros.
