Community development agents are currently being trained to register and educate beneficiaries on the use of mobile phones, said the director of FAS, the entity that implements Kwenda.
The amounts will be transferred to Unitel, which, in turn, will transfer the amount to the beneficiary's mobile phone.
"You receive a code and go to a local Unitel agent to collect the money," explained Belarmino Jelembi, adding that the phones will be distributed free of charge.
The Kwenda program, which is in a pilot phase, currently covers five municipalities and has 10,674 households, of which 5774 have already received payments
By the end of December, according to Belarmino Jelembi, Kwenda will reach more than 300 thousand families and 15 municipalities, which correspond to the “expansion” of the program, involving 900 community development agents.
Payments of 8500 kwanzas per month and per family are paid quarterly (25,500 kwanzas) and for one year.
The program has a financing of 420 million dollars, of which 320 million dollars financed by the World Bank, which will continue until 2023.
According to Belarmino Jelembi, the objective is to implement the program in four dimensions: money transfer, productive inclusion, municipalization of social action and a unique social register.
