Covid-19: Africa with over 302 dead in 24 hours for a total of 30,596

Africa recorded 302 deaths due to covid-19 in the last 24 hours, for a total of 30,596, in 1,275,815 cases of infection, according to the latest pandemic figures on the continent.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), in the last 24 hours there were 8159 more cases in the 55 member states of the organization and 6041 more recovered.

In total, the continent has 1,275,815 cases of infection and 1,015,865 patients have recovered, thus having 259,950 active cases, another 2118 in the last 24 hours.

The largest number of cases and deaths continues to be registered in Southern Africa, with 680,495 infections and 15,592 deaths. South Africa alone, the continent's most affected country, accounts for 633,015 cases and 14,563 fatalities.

North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, now has 239,016 people infected and 8762 dead, and in West Africa the number of infections has risen to 162,590 and that of fatalities to 2442.

In the East African region, the number of covid-19 cases is 138,765 and 2754 deaths, and in Central Africa there are 54,949 cases and 1046 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 5479 deaths and 99.425 cases, followed by Algeria, with 1531 deaths and 45.469 cases.

Morocco accounts for 66,855 infected and 1253 fatalities.

In the six most affected countries are also Nigeria, with 54,587 infected and 1048 dead, and Sudan, where 13,189 infected and 823 died.

Among the Portuguese-speaking African countries, Mozambique accounts for 4207 cases and 26 deaths, Cape Verde has 4125 cases and 41 deaths and Angola 2805 cases and 113 deaths.

Guinea-Bissau has 2245 infections and 38 deaths and São Tomé and Príncipe has 896 cases and 15 fatalities.

Equatorial Guinea, which is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), registers 4965 infected people and 83 deaths, according to data released on Tuesday.
