Covid.19: Africa passes 30 thousand dead and one million recovered

Africa this past Wednesday passed the barrier of 30 thousand dead due to the covid-19 and the number of recovered is already more than one million, according to the most recent figures of the pandemic in the continent.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), in the last 24 hours there were 242 deaths in the 55 member states of the organization and the number of recovered people (15,353) was more than double the new cases (6995).

In total, the continent has 30,075 deaths and 1,001,156 recovered patients and an accumulated 1,259,547 cases of infection.

The largest number of cases and deaths continues to be registered in Southern Africa, with 674,466 infections and 15,273 deaths. South Africa alone, the continent's most affected country, accounts for 628,259 cases and 14,263 fatalities.

North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, now has 233,249 people infected and 8,625 dead and in West Africa the number of infections has risen to 161,380 and that of fatalities to 2,400.

In the East African region, the number of covid-19 cases is 135,911 and 2,713 deaths and in Central Africa 54,441 cases and 1064 deaths are recorded.

Egypt, which is the second country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 5440 deaths and 99,115 cases, followed by Algeria, with 1518 deaths and 44,833 cases.

Morocco counts 63,781 infected and 1184 fatalities.

In the six most affected countries are also Nigeria, with 54,247 infected and 1023 dead, and Sudan, with 13,189 infected and 823 dead.

Among the Portuguese-speaking African countries, Mozambique records 4039 cases and 23 deaths, Cape Verde has 3970 cases and 40 deaths and Angola accounts for 2729 cases and 109 deaths.

Guinea-Bissau has 2245 infections and 38 deaths and São Tomé and Príncipe has 896 cases and 15 fatalities.

Equatorial Guinea, which is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), registers 4965 infected people and 83 deaths, according to data released on Tuesday.
