According to the Angolan Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, a 65-year-old citizen of the province of Luanda died in the last 24 hours, with 13 patients recovered.

Of the cases reported, 52 male and 23 female, 14 were registered in Zaire province, two in Huambo, eight in Cabinda and 51 in Luanda.

With the entry of Huambo province for statistics, the country is left with only the provinces of Cuando Cubango and Namibe without cases of the covid-19 pandemic.

The country has for now 1084 patients considered recovered and 1536 active, of which one is in critical condition, under invasive mechanical ventilation, 23 severe, 36 moderate, 48 mild and 1428 asymptomatic.

The laboratory, in the last 24 hours, has processed 465 samples, 75 of which are positive, so that to date there is a cumulative of 57,500 samples processed by RT-PCR.

Franco Mufinda said that the mass testing of taxi drivers in Luanda continues this Wednesday in the municipalities of Cacuaco and Viana.

The governor stressed that the country is in a growing phase of cases, with August, which has now ended, being the month with the most cases and deaths so far.

According to Franco Mufinda, in August more than half of the cases have been registered since the beginning of the pandemic in the country in March, with 1506 reported infections.

"August had 56 deaths, but it was also that month where more than half of the people recovered, with 631 cured," stressed the ruler, pointing out that the data from August "glimpse what is ahead.

"In the last week of August we can observe that we managed to have a daily average of 65 cases and the deaths were two on average per day, but also the recovered ones were 35, that is, almost half of the cases or even a little above, on average, were recovered", he reinforced.

The Secretary of State for Public Health appealed to people not to devalue the signs and symptoms, which in Angola can cross with other infectious diseases, including malaria and others, whose symptoms are headache, cough, breathing difficulties, joint pain and loss of taste and smell.

Franco Mufinda said that 69 percent of people being monitored in Angola have no symptoms at all, 7 percent of infected people have headaches, which are common in other diseases, and five out of 100 people with covid-19 have a cough, 4 percent have breathing difficulties, three out of 100 have a fever, and 97 have no fever.

"Our call is that if you have a fever, headache or other symptoms, the advice is to look for the nearest health unit so you can start the diagnostic process," he said.

The pandemic of the new coronavirus that causes covid-19 has already caused at least 851,071 and has infected more than 25.5 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a balance made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
