"A new home, full of light and hope for new discoveries, friendships and dreams in the construction of values of citizenship and respect, also appearing as a significant milestone for the local community, in this space of learning and development for children." This is how the government of the province of Luanda refers to the recently opened Boavista Primary School.
The so-called 'Primary Education School No. 1221' was "returned" to the residents of Boavista, urban district of Ingombota, this Wednesday morning. The new infrastructure has 12 classrooms, a cafeteria, library and computer laboratory. It will have capacity for more than 1000 students, distributed over two periods, and will have 24 teachers in the first phase.
It was built from scratch in just three months, with the full sponsorship of Grupo Naval, which has operated in Luanda in the industrial sector for 17 years, costing around 500 thousand dollars, says the Luanda municipal administration in a statement.
During the inauguration, Manuel Homem reinforced that the Government's program prioritizes the construction of public infrastructure, with priority being schools, hospitals, among others. The governor said that the capital province needs more than 500 schools to serve the high number of children outside the educational system, more than one million.
He also said that the PR recently approved the rehabilitation of eight schools, including those of Njinga Mbande, Mutu Ya Kevela and Juventude em Luta, calling for the protection of infrastructure and condemning the recurring vandalization of schools and materials.
On the same day, the governor 'uncovered' some toponymic signs in the Rangel district, more specifically on the streets of Minho, Madeira, Travessa da Ilha de Cabo-Verde and Quirino Amézaga. The day also included the planting of various trees, within the scope of the Luanda Afforestation Program (PAL).
