The release of the calendar – which comprises 48 weeks, of which 41 are focused on academic activities and nine holidays and 'bridges' – was made by the Ministry of Education at the beginning of August. Thus, according to Executive Decree 31/2024, which was signed by Luísa Grilo, Minister of Education, classes for the new academic year will officially start on 2 September, with the first trimester running until 3 January.
Academic competitions will also begin during this term, including activities such as the Mathematics, Physics and Financial Literacy Olympiads, among others.
The second term will start on 6 January and will run until 17 April. According to the school calendar, cited by Jornal de Angola, during this phase, the national assessment of second grade (reading fluency proficiency) is scheduled to take place, as well as the assessment of fifth and eighth grade students in Portuguese and Mathematics.
The third and final quarter will run from 21 April to 31 July. In terms of activities, the 12th edition of the Mathematics Olympiad is scheduled for 14 to 17 April, as well as the 6th Educational System-Educa Angola Sample Fair and the Mathematics Olympiad of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries, on 23 and 24 May and in July of next year, respectively.
This third quarter will also include the national exams, which will be held between 9 and 13 June of next year.
The provincial exams, according to the calendar – cited by Jornal de Angola – are scheduled for between 3 and 11 July of next year for the sixth, ninth and twelfth grades. The re-sit and special exams will be held between 28 and 30 July.
Regarding the holidays, this period starts on June 26th for general education, as well as for teacher training and professional technicians, as well as transition classes from initiation to eleventh grade. While students in the examination years, namely sixth, ninth and twelfth grades, will start their holidays on July 11th, 2025.
In Pre-School Education, the holidays are collective and will take place between July 26th and August 23rd.
According to Jornal de Angola, teachers will start their holidays on July 24th, which will end on August 22nd next year.
The calendar also defines that August 4th to 15th of next year is the deadline for registration, selection and publication of lists of new students, and that the period from August 20th to 23rd, 2025 will be reserved for the registration of new students for the 2025/2026 school year.
Although classes only start on September 2nd, the official opening ceremony of the school year is scheduled for the 30th of this month, in a ceremony that will take place in the province of Uíge.
