The Nástio Mosquito exhibition in Antwerp takes visitors “on a journey of creativity”, in which they are “confronted by personalities who demand that they learn to navigate a complex world”, reads the museum’s official website.

“King of Klowns” takes into consideration the evolution of Nástio Mosquito’s artistic practice, as well as “his transgressions into, and outside of, art”.

The exhibition will include “key works from the formative period of the artist’s practice from the early 2000s to today, including forays into performance, literature and music.”

Furthermore, “King of Klowns” includes “reflections by Nástio Mosquito on his career, through new productions”.

The work of Nástio Mosquito, who lives and works in Ghent, Belgium, has included video, photography, installations, words, performance and music.

The artist, who was born in 1981 in Angola, has already developed projects with institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), in New York, the Prada Foundation, in Milan, or Tate Modern, in London.

Among the various group exhibitions in which he participated are the Documenta 14 biennial, in 2017, and the 29th São Paulo Biennial, in 2010.

In 2014 he released his debut album, “If I were Angolan”, the first in the “Empowerment of a Generation” trilogy.

“If I were Angolan” were followed by “Gatuno, Eimigrante & Pai de Família”, released in 2016, and “0”, which came out at the beginning of this year.

The Nástio Mosquito exhibition in Antwerp will be on display between October 11th of this year and January 26th, 2025.
