Students in grades 5th to 9th will not pay fees on public transport

Students from the fifth to the ninth grade will be exempt from paying fees on public transport, informed the Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo. This measure, which is part of the 'Giramais' initiative, aims to ensure that "students actually study" and "do not give up" on school.

Luísa Grilo explained that students will be able to "benefit" from the "right to social assistance in the field of transport".

"Our students will be able to benefit from a right that is the Basic Responsible Law, which is the right to social assistance in the field of transport. Students up to the ninth grade can be aware that this will happen, we have already tried it here, we have already We have proven, I hope there is a possibility of demonstrating, everyone can see, that students will actually be able to benefit until the ninth grade", she said, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

On the occasion, the holder of the education portfolio said that "nothing is paid", and the only condition that is imposed is that students "actually study" and that they "do not give up".

"It's good, you don't pay anything, the only thing is to ask that our students actually study, not give up and benefit from their pass. It is a benefit that they will receive to contribute to their training", pointed out Luísa Grilo.

Regarding transport costs, the official indicated that these are provided by the Government. "It's safe, it's free and it's good. It's zero, they don't pay anything, the condition is to be in school (...). It is the government that pays, it is the Angolan Executive that pays", she said, quoted by RNA.

It should be recalled that, last week, the National Integrated Ticketing Company (ENBI) launched, at the Municipalities and Cities Fair, the 'Giramais' card, which aims to sharply improve urban mobility in the country. On the occasion, the company also presented the national ticketing system.

"These two launches, which represent a historic milestone for the transport sector in Angola, aim to improve urban mobility in the country and create the necessary conditions for citizens to enjoy efficient transport, at the time they need it", said, at the time, the company.
