TAAG cabin staff denounces “dismissal” of nationals in favor of foreigners

The cabin staff union of the carrier TAAG denounced this Friday that the administration of the state-owned company “is giving up Angolan workers” in favor of foreign planes, rented with the crews, calling a demonstration for Sunday.

:

"Our claim is essentially related to this fact: they are forgoing national labor in favor of foreign and leased aircraft with the crews, which is unacceptable, because TAGG has competent crew members and we are being set aside", said this Friday the executive secretary of the union, Ondina Costa, to Lusa.

A public demonstration, promoted by TAAG's Provincial Union of Navigating Personnel (Sinpropnc), is scheduled for Sunday, in front of 4 de Fevereiro International Airport to denounce "constant violations" of the agreements signed between the union and the administration of TAAG.

"Several times we refer our claims in relation to the violations of our rights, expressed in the collective bargaining agreement, such as better working conditions, subsidies and others, which unfortunately have not been resolved", regretted Ondina Costa.

According to the union official, what "aggravated the concern" of the crew of the state company and which will take them to the street, in a "peaceful and silent" way, were the "two last communiqués sent" by the TAAG administration.

"Where it is noted that TAAG's current flight frequencies will be operated by other companies, leased planes, including cabin and cockpit crews", she stressed.

"Why were these planes leased with cabin crew, when we TAAG cabin crew could adapt to the leased planes and not have them come with 'full' crews?" she asked.

For Sinpropnc's executive secretary, the presence of foreign planes rented by the company with their crew members is symptomatic of the fact that TAAG's cabin crew will "stop making international flights" for a year.

"And this year, what are we, the TAAG crew, going to do? Earning salaries and sitting at home we don't agree, we don't allow it, because if there is this need, then this administration will be obliged to train TAAG staff ", he stressed.

"It is clear that soon they will see an excess of crew members and they will promote the dismissal of workers, in fact, this intention has already been expressed before and we think that this is the veiled way to later reduce the young staff, many of them at the beginning of their career", said.

Ondina Costa also recalled that in previous moments the company had already rented planes, "but never with crews" to the detriment of its own: "We cannot accept losing our jobs at a time when there is even talk of changes in the company".

"We do accept change, but never to the detriment of the Angolan working class", concluded the executive secretary of Sinpropnc.
