The police were forced to intervene this Thursday morning to stop disturbances and acts of vandalism against some parties, in the city of Luanda, where some young people hired tried to collect the promised payment for electoral participation.

Videos shared on social media showed, in the center of the city, a group of young people running and throwing stones in the vicinity of Avenida de Portugal, where the Portuguese embassy is located, having since been dispersed by the police.

The "movement of citizens", according to Orlando Bernardo, spokesman for the election security command post, was due to problems with the parties in which they signed up to be delegates on the list and other electoral activities.

The official ruled out that the disturbances were related to the announcement of the provisional results, which give victory to the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) in the country, with Luanda being conquered by the rival National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), for the first time.

The young people are said to have been hired by political parties and tried to collect payment for the services they provided during this period, especially on the 24th, actions that resulted in "very worrying vandalism", having been "used means that jeopardize the public good".

It led the police forces to take charge of the situations and restore order, with the spokesman appealing to political parties that "have those pending" to have a responsible attitude and try to solve the problem with the citizens, namely the Alliance National Patriotic (APN) and the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA)

If the "vandals persist in this attitude, the heavy hand of the national police will fall to you", he warned, asking the parties to regularize the situation and to those who protest to find other means of doing so.

He also indicated that there were no reports of injuries.

During the election day, he added, everything went smoothly in terms of public security.

According to Orlando Bernardo, the country "is calm, it's calm", so there are no public security concerns, although the forces maintain a state of readiness.
