UNITA clarifies that deputy was not involved in accident with campaign vehicle

UNITA clarified that the driver of deputy Liberty Chiyaka escaped unharmed from a road accident, which caused the protocol vehicle to overturn after colliding with another vehicle, allegedly driven by a drunk driver.

:

The parliamentary group of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) states, in a statement, that the accident occurred on Wednesday night, in Huíla province, and the deputy was not aboard the vehicle.

Liberty Chiyaka, leader of the UNITA parliamentary group, is in that province, in the south of the country, carrying out party activities, within the framework of the electoral campaign aimed at the elections of 24 August, and "at the time of the accident he was in the hotel where he is staying".

"Only the driver was in the vehicle, who minutes before the accident had left the deputy's field assistant at his house, when another vehicle crashed into the protocol vehicle in the central part of the right side, which caused the rollover", it reads in the statement released this Friday.

The driver of the UNITA politician "was unharmed" and the driver of the other vehicle that caused the accident, who allegedly "did not have a driver's license and was in a state of intoxication", is detained and will be presented to the Public Ministry in the next few hours.

On the same note, UNITA thanks the solidarity of all who were moved by what happened and hopes that the competent authorities bring to light the results of their investigations.
