The accusations were reiterated nine days after the Luanda Provincial Court acquitted Tânia de Carvalho of the defamation and slander complaint filed by José Carlos Paiva, who demanded the payment of compensation of 1.3 million dollars.
At stake is the alleged practice of economic and financial crimes, namely the allegation that José Carlos de Castro Paiva, who was president of Sonangol UK (London), used his managerial position in the company to transfer a percentage of an investment in the oil company state-owned company in BAI for its own name.
Tânia de Carvalho made the allegation as an analyst of national and international political affairs in the program "Politics in the Feminino", of the Public Television of Angola (TPA), in the broadcast of January 24, 2020.
"I am there as a sociologist, but above all as a citizen, who has the possibility, through the program, to express my opinion on the different facts analyzed in the agenda that is given by the TPA We are only there to comment on the matters that are asked of us and that day we talked about the impact of the 'Luanda Leaks' process, on what was the current government management", she explained.
It is a topic that began to be publicized in 1994 and that from then on was also denounced by the portal Maka Angola, by Angolan journalist Rafael Marques.
In the acquittal sentence of judge Marideth Teixeira, the magistrate considered that "there was no ethically reprehensible conduct... there was no bad faith... the offended party is in an uncertain part...".
In the statements she made on Friday to Lusa, Tânia de Carvalho said she used her freedom of expression.
"I used my freedom of expression and he feels entitled to ask me for compensation of 1.3 million dollars, which is 525 million kwanzas. We are talking about a country where the minimum wage does not even reach 90 euros", she added.
"I, Tânia, have been a civil servant for more than 15 years. Adding my salary from those years, plus all my work, even other authorial works, which I'm doing outside my official profession, it doesn't even reach 10 percent of the value" of the compensation, which the sociologist classifies as a manifestation of "arrogance and petulance".
Tânia de Carvalho questions the fact that BAI has not yet commented on her acquittal.
BAI "should pay extra attention in terms of 'compliance'", he considered, adding: "I actually think I was there as a spokesperson for many interests of society".
José Carlos Paiva has 20 days from the reading of the sentence to appeal.
"After the process, they have 20 days to file another action, because they can appeal. They have that right. I'll wait. If they don't do it better. If they do, we'll go with our heads held high. that we have, a set of documents that we have to prove", she guaranteed.
Tânia de Carvalho believes she has an obligation to continue to denounce the mismanagement of public funds.
"I have the mission of trying to make Angola a little better for mine. And if the only way I have is at least to use my right to freedom of expression, I cannot remain silent", she stressed, considering that it is a question of an issue that is not exclusive to the President of the Republic.
For the sociologist, "it is a mission for all Angolans", stressing that the Angolan Constitution says that they are equal before the law.
"So we have to realize that and I know people like him are learning every day that things must change. We have to tidy up the house," she concluded.
Meanwhile, Tânia de Carvalho and Rafael Marques filed a criminal complaint against José Carlos Paiva on 2 May at the Attorney General's Office (PGR), for alleged corruption and misappropriation of assets.
In the complaint, the two ask for a criminal investigation of José Carlos de Castro Paiva for the alleged practice of economic and financial crimes.
In the document delivered to the PGR, they recall that when BAI was created, in November 1996, Sonangol was the main investor in the banking institution, with 18.5 percent of the shares, a position that decreased by 10 percent over time, having this capital was assumed by some of the company's directors, including José Carlos Paiva.
"There were no financial movements consistent with and justifying the private purchase of BAI shares by José Carlos de Castro Paiva", they maintain, adding that he "always behaved and still behaves like the true owner of the shares".
Tânia de Carvalho and Rafael Marques also recall that "the lack of transparency in Angolan banking and the promiscuity between private and public interests" was one of the reasons that led US official entities to forbid the access of the Angolan financial system to the financial system. North American.
The authors of the complaint end by stressing that this participation "is consistent with the defense of the credibility of justice" and because they believe that "the fight against corruption and the moralization of society must be carried out through the courts and not through mere street agitation, social networks, violent or non-constitutional means".
