UNITA announced that it will file a complaint with suspensive effect on the results of the elections announced by the National Electoral Commission, which proclaimed the victory of the MPLA, and stated that it had not been notified of the decision.

In a statement from the Executive Secretariat of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission, the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) claims to have learned of the results announced on Monday by the president of the CNE, Manuel Pereira da Silva, through the media. public social.

Reiterating that it does not recognize the results of the CNE, until the complaints already in its possession are decided, the party also referred that it was not notified of the decision of the plenary that guaranteed the aforementioned results and did not receive a copy of the minutes of the calculation of the final results of the elections. of August 24th, as stipulated by law.

"In this context, it is useful to inform national and international opinion that, within the legal deadlines, a claim will be filed that will have the suspensive effects of the declaration of final results presented by the CNE", the statement said.

Finally, UNITA underlined that "it is in the interest of all Angolans that the CNE does not avoid comparing the summary minutes held by political parties, resulting from the popular will, expressed in the polls, which represents the electoral truth".

The National Electoral Commission announced this Monday that the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) won the elections with 51 percent of the votes against 44 percent for UNITA.

The MPLA won 3,209,429 votes, or 51.17 percent, electing 124 deputies, and UNITA won 2,756,786 votes, guaranteeing 90 deputies, with 43.95 percent of the total.

The CNE plenary thus proclaimed the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, head of the MPLA list, the most voted party, and vice-president, Esperança da Costa, second on the MPLA list.

In his speech, João Lourenço congratulated himself on victory, the fifth, coinciding with the elections held in Angola, despite the party having lost one million votes, in the worst result ever.
