"There is evidence that it is necessary to correct mandates, but we have not finished counting. In this matter we must be calm, we must not take a position on anything that is not proven. Everything we do will be formally proven, we expect the same from the institutions and of the MPLA", Adalberto Costa Júnior told journalists, as he left the funeral of former president José Eduardo dos Santos, this Sunday in Luanda.

According to the leader of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), complaints were formalized in the provincial electoral commissions in cases where "the results are not in agreement".

"I think that's why the CNE spokesperson said yesterday that they would review the mandates," he continued.

On Saturday, the spokesman for the National Electoral Commission (CNE) told the journalist that reports on votes claimed at the provincial electoral commission level were being analyzed and only after all the information would there be definitive results.

"It is always possible that, depending on the magnitude of the number of votes claimed, some changes may occur", he pointed out.

On Friday, UNITA contested a possible victory for the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and is carrying out a parallel vote count, based on summary minutes from the country's 18 provinces.

"We are working with CNE minutes, the CNE may eventually refuse to review the mandates, but I don't think it will do so", stressed the UNITA leader, noting that the CNE spokesperson stated that they would verify and assume any possible correction of mandates.

"The data we have gives us many more mandates and these will obviously be withdrawn from the MPLA, our quota has not ended", he underlined, recalling that the data known so far are the CNE data.

"We are calm, doing what we have to do and we can only hope that the vote deposited in the polls is scrupulously respected", stressed the leader.

Adalberto Costa Júnior also stated that he will be satisfied with the results of the minutes.

"From the moment we accept to participate in the game, we will have to conform to what the minutes tell us, we will have to stick to the results that the minutes give us", he assured.

According to data released by the CNE, when 97.03 percent of the votes in the elections held last Wednesday were counted, the MPLA obtained 3,162,801 votes, one million fewer ballots counted than in 2017, when it obtained 4,115,302 wishes.

UNITA, on the other hand, registered a great increase, electing deputies in 17 of the 18 provinces and obtaining a historic victory in Luanda, the largest province in the country, obtaining so far 2,727,885 votes, while in 2017 it obtained 1,800,860 favorable ballots.

However, the UNITA leader on Friday contested the MPLA's victory and asked for an international commission to compare the electoral records held by the party with those of the CNE.
