Humanist Party questions results and says abstention “is not real”

The Humanist Party of Angola (PHA) considers that the abstention rate in Wednesday's elections, above 54 percent, "is not real" because the CNE "is not disclosing the basis of electoral results" as established by law.

:

The PHA, in a press release made public this Friday, says it is following the release of the provisional results of the elections with concern because it takes place without the indication of elements that support the announced data.

The rookie political force, led by Bela Malaquias and which elected two deputies, according to the latest provisional data from the National Electoral Commission (CNE), criticizes the "non-disclosure" of the electoral results base on its website.

Voters, he argues, "should be able to see table by table, assembly by assembly, which are in fact the polling stations that have already been scrutinized".

According to the PHA, the principles of transparency and electoral truth require that, along with the number of valid votes, the number of voters who actually voted, the number of polling stations constituted and scrutinized in each province be disclosed.

"We believe that it is in the public interest that this data be placed, in an open and transparent way, on the CNE's website, for the monitoring of citizens who are, after all, the sole master of the election", reads the note.

The democratic election, he says, "is not a matter that concerns only the contestants".

According to the PHA, it is the people whom the CNE must serve with integrity, transparency and a sense of accountability: "So the CNE must provide clear and credible information to citizens".

"You can't determine any percentage if you don't know the universe, the whole", he stresses.

The Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) won Angola's general elections with 51.07 percent, followed by the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) with 44.05 percent of the votes, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) released, when 97.3 percent of polling stations were scrutinized.

The provisional results were released on Thursday by CNE spokesman Lucas Quilundo, at a time when 97.3 percent of polling stations were being scrutinized, so there should be no substantial changes, he said.

According to these data, the MPLA elects 124 deputies and UNITA holds 90 parliamentary seats.

The historic National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA), the Social Renewal Party (PRS) and the new Humanist Party of Angola (PHA), the only one led by a woman (Bela Malaquias), elect two deputies each and the CASA coalition -CE no longer has parliamentary representation, losing the 16 seats it had.

Abstention, according to Lucas Quilundo, was above 54 percent.

Bela Malaquias' party also questioned the "reliability" of the electoral roll, with 14 million voters, considering that "one cannot speak of abstention based on electoral rolls that include dead and underage citizens".

"This abstention rate is not real. The CNE cannot publish results not counted under the law. The law establishes that the operation of national tabulation of elections has the purpose of verifying the number of voters who voted", he observes.

"If the number is not recorded in the summary minutes of the polling station nor in the minutes of the polling station, as prescribed by the electoral law, how can the CNE proceed with the counting of the elections", asks the PHA.

The "humanists" say they have already submitted a formal complaint to the CNE, but have not received any response, also stating that their representatives have not had access to the national scrutiny centre.

"We did not attend, we did not have access to the tabulation activities that the CNE carried out in its scrutiny center to produce the results that it has been disseminating. incidences, votes claimed, nothing", contests the party.

The PHA also questions the excess of ballot papers and the restrictions imposed on the representatives in the scrutiny centre, among other illegalities about which the party has already lodged a complaint with the CNE.
