The provisional results were released this Thursday by the spokesman for the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Lucas Quilundo, at a time when 97.3 percent of polling stations were being scrutinized, so there should be no substantial changes, he said.

According to these data, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) elects 124 deputies and the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) has 90 parliamentary seats.

João Lourenço is thus preparing to exercise a new term in the Presidency of the Republic, in a victory far from the 61.8 percent obtained in 2017 and in which the MPLA loses its qualified majority, gaining an absolute majority in parliament. His opponent, Adalberto da Costa Júnior, achieves a historic result for UNITA, despite failing to be elected Chief Executive.

The historic National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA), the Social Renewal Party and the debuting Humanist Party of Angola (PHA), the only one led by a woman (Bela Malaquias) elect two deputies each and the CASA-CE coalition leaves to have parliamentary representation.

The PRS got 1.13 percent of the vote, virtually tying with the FNLA, which got 1.05 percent, and the PHA, which got 1.01 percent of the vote.

The Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE), which was the third political force in parliament, obtains only 0.75 percent of the votes and does not elect any deputy, as does the National Patriotic Alliance (0.48 percent) and the National Party for Justice in Angola (P-Njango), which did not go beyond 0.42 percent.

UNITA conquers three provinces, with an expressive result, and Luanda, where it reaches 62.59 percent of the votes and three deputies, before an MPLA that drops to 33.31 percent and is left with only two representatives in the circle of the most population of the country.

The largest opposition party also dominated in Zaire, with 52.10 percent of the votes against 36.25 percent for the MPLA, and in the independentist province of Cabinda, where it overturned the result announced in the morning and won four parliamentarians, against one for the MPLA, with a vote of 68.55 percent against 26.36 percent for the ruling party.

Abstention, according to Lucas Quilundo, was above 54 percent.

In the 25 cities where the voting took place abroad, the tabulation is also completed and the results obtained are reflected in the national circle.
