CNE says that the voting process was a “resounding success” and that it has not officially received any complaints of irregularities

The spokesman for the National Elections Commission (CNE), Lucas Quilunda, said this Wednesday in Luanda that the “election process was a resounding success” and that “the CNE did not officially receive any reference to irregularities relating" to the process.

"Once again and in an exemplary way, Angolan voters showed civic spirit and showed a very peaceful spirit", added Quilunda, who was speaking to journalists at the Aníbal de Melo Press Center.

"All 13,338 polling stations in the country and abroad have already closed", said Lucas Quilunda.

The spokesperson for the CNE also said that the National Scrutiny Center "has already started to receive the first voting records, coming from South Africa, Republic of Congo and Zambia".

The CNE spokesperson also said that he had not received any official complaints about irregularities during the voting process for the general elections.

In the last briefing this Wednesday on the general elections, Lucas Quilundo stated that "the CNE has not received, in an official way, any reference to irregularities concerning" the process.

During the day, videos circulated on social networks about detentions of list delegates, polling stations in which many voters were unable to vote because they closed before the scheduled time and difficulties in the accreditation of delegates.

Lucas Quilundo said he was unaware of information released on social media about arrests of list delegates and alleged impediments to the exercise of the functions of opposition political forces, so he refused to take a position.

"If this has occurred, it is likely to have been within the scope of the exercise of the functions proper to the bodies that are responsible for maintaining order", he suggested.

As for voters who were "relocated" to other polling stations, he stated that "it has to be seen on a case-by-case basis and in the presence of concrete data".

"We have no reference at national level that any situation had occurred that would call into question this successful characterization of the process", he reinforced, stressing that he did not have any complaints that came from an official source.

The official also mentioned that there is no provision for the disclosure of final results for the moment, and the counting process should continue uninterruptedly until all votes deposited in the respective assembly are counted.

"Therefore, we do not have this forecast of the end of the process. It is in progress, the information we have is that there are sufficient conditions and efforts were made to provide all tables and assemblies with lighting kits to prevent the absence of light", he said.

He added that the law provides for the dissemination of partial results as the minutes are issued, stressing that the CNE is the only entity whose results "are valid and relevant".

Asked about the shortening of the voting time, which in other electoral acts lasted until 7 pm, unlike what happened in these elections in which the polls closed at 4 pm (local time, the same as in Lisbon), he justified that this was due to changes in legislation.
