Eight months after opening the Hospital Complex for Cardio-Pulmonary Diseases 'Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento', João Lourenço returned to the unit this Sunday afternoon, in order to assess the operation of the hospital.

"We are satisfied with what we have just seen. After eight months, the hospital is responding to patients, not only from the city of Luanda, but, in general, from the country. the provinces", he said.

A government communiqué to which VerAngola had access states that, during the visit, João Lourenço visited the cardiology, pulmonology and neurosurgery areas of the hospital, where he received explanations from the medical staff and talked with the hospitalized patients about the assistance and conditions of the hospital. attendance.

"This unit, today, is performing very complex surgeries, not only cardiac surgeries, but it has also started to perform neurosurgeries, therefore, of the spine and brain. These are very complex surgeries that, until recently, patients who suffered diseases, had to be evacuated abroad," he said.

It should be remembered that, in just eight months of operation, the hospital complex performed more than a hundred cardiovascular surgeries.

"We spoke to doctors, nurses, technicians. They are all very enthusiastic, very committed to what they do. They have passed 100 heart surgeries and are willing to continue working for the health of Angolans, and this is very gratifying", highlighted João Lourenço.

The general director of the hospital, Carlos Alberto Masseca, said that the goal for the next year is to carry out 350 surgeries. "We have reached 100 surgeries in eight months, which means that we have conditions to increase to what is the optimal capacity", he maintained.

Inaugurated on 30 November 2021 by the President of the Republic, the Hospital Complex for Cardio-Pulmonary Diseases 'Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento' employs around 1890 professionals, including doctors, nurses, diagnostic and administrative technicians.

The health unit occupies an area of ​​49,940 square meters and has modern equipment, considered "state-of-the-art", which guarantees the diagnosis and treatment of various cardio-pulmonary diseases.

The investment – ​​which involved the rehabilitation of the previous infrastructure located on the same site – amounted to US$214 million.
