"This unit, today, is performing very complex surgeries, not only cardiac surgeries, but it has also started to perform neurosurgeries, therefore, of the spine and brain. These are very complex surgeries that, until recently, patients who suffered diseases, had to be evacuated abroad," he said.
It should be remembered that, in just eight months of operation, the hospital complex performed more than a hundred cardiovascular surgeries.
"We spoke to doctors, nurses, technicians. They are all very enthusiastic, very committed to what they do. They have passed 100 heart surgeries and are willing to continue working for the health of Angolans, and this is very gratifying", highlighted João Lourenço.
The general director of the hospital, Carlos Alberto Masseca, said that the goal for the next year is to carry out 350 surgeries. "We have reached 100 surgeries in eight months, which means that we have conditions to increase to what is the optimal capacity", he maintained.
Inaugurated on 30 November 2021 by the President of the Republic, the Hospital Complex for Cardio-Pulmonary Diseases 'Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento' employs around 1890 professionals, including doctors, nurses, diagnostic and administrative technicians.
The health unit occupies an area of 49,940 square meters and has modern equipment, considered "state-of-the-art", which guarantees the diagnosis and treatment of various cardio-pulmonary diseases.
The investment – which involved the rehabilitation of the previous infrastructure located on the same site – amounted to US$214 million.
