DP World buys new equipment for the Port of Luanda Multipurpose Terminal

DP World Luanda acquired a fleet of 30 new cargo handling equipment, with the latest technology, to improve the operational efficiency of the Multipurpose Terminal (MPT) of the Port of Luanda and minimize customer costs.

:

This acquisition follows on from the work begun in March this year, when DP World Luanda started operating and after it was awarded the concession for the management and operation of the MPT for 20 years.

"At that time, DP World Luanda started with a set of actions to transform the Multipurpose Terminal of the Port of Luanda into a modern, professional, efficient and profitable infrastructure, namely training, acquisition of new tools and new equipment and also of construction of new facilities inside the terminal for its workers," says the company in a statement sent to VerAngola.

This programme, supported by an investment of US$190 million, also aims to support the country in diversifying and increasing its economic and social growth, making the Port of Luanda one of the most important on the African coast.

The vehicles now acquired and already in operation, of the Terberg YT223 brand, are of the latest generation and are spread all over the world, especially in the terminals that have better efficiency ratios (cost, quality and time), being used inside from the MPT yard area to move containers and cargo to and from the loading and unloading terminal.

In the coming months, DP World Luanda will also receive six long-range forklifts, four empty container handlers, four standard forklifts and a new gantry crane with rubber tires (RTGs), which will be the first of its kind to be used in Luanda .

Francisco Pinzón, CEO of DP World Luanda, believes that work is proceeding at a good pace and that the results are beginning to be visible. "We made great progress in the first four months of our operation and in several areas of work. We are doing this to transform the MPT into a world-class terminal, to provide our customers with an efficient and continuous service, to increase trade in and with Angola and to position Luanda as a key maritime-commercial hub on the western coast of southern Africa".

Since March, 32 professional training sessions were held, in which 300 of the more than 730 employees of the Multipurpose Terminal of the Port of Luanda participated. In these sessions, the company's Human Resources sought to convey to all teams the vision, mission, objectives and commitment of DP World Luanda towards Porto, towards its employees, towards customers and towards the country and which are basically "working more and better, in safety and with a good environment, as well as continuous learning about what is relevant for the profitability of an infrastructure such as MPT".
