Alexandre Santos wants to fight for first place in Girabola at Petro de Luanda

The Portuguese coach Alexandre Santos assumed this Saturday the ambition to fight for the first place in the Angolan soccer championship at the service of Petro de Luanda, in his official presentation, through the club's official website.

The Portuguese coach, who succeeded the Angolan Mateus Agostinho 'Bodunha', assumed satisfaction with the confidence placed in him by a club "whose greatness is known on the African continent", aiming to win titles.

"The direction of the club established as objectives to dignify the name of this great club, it has the conquests that it has, it has the titles that it has, being so, I must maintain or continue to write the history of the club, through the conquest of titles and, above all, we cannot think that coming to Petro de Luanda means to participate only in the championship. It is a team that wants to be in the first place", he said.

Alexandre Santos, 44, coached the Alverca in the last two seasons, after passages by the Real Massamá and the sub-23 teams of Estoril Praia and Sporting.

Before that, he was part of some technical teams led by José Peseiro in clubs like FC Porto, Sporting de Braga, Al Wahda, Al Sharjah and Al-Ahly, as well as the national team of Saudi Arabia, having also been assistant coach of Caen, Estoril Praia, Estrela da Amadora and Vitória de Setúbal.

"What I promise is work to be and to be better than the others. To be better than the others we have to work harder than the others," he said, stressing that coaching a club like Petro "forces" to face every game to win.

In this sense, the Portuguese coach recognized "legitimacy" to the fans of the club to claim the conquest of titles to the club, which more times won the Girabola (15), but that escapes him for 12 years.

"Petro de Luanda is big because it has many fans and followers, so they have all the legitimacy to press. It would be bad if they didn't pressure, so this pressure is welcome and the players and coaches should feel this pressure as positive, as something that helps us be better. It's something that doesn't bother me because I've been through many clubs that also have this greatness and these characteristics", he concluded.
