This is the third consecutive time that the national senior women's handball team meets the Slovenian counterpart. According to Angop, overall, this is the fourth time the two teams meet in world championships.
Of the three games played so far with the Europeans, the Angolans have won only one: in 2005, in Russia. The defeats were registered in 2017, in Germany, and in 2019, in Japan.
As for the other opponents, Angola lost against Montenegro in the World Cups of Brazil (2011) and Denmark (2015). Recently, the national team met the Montenegrin counterpart again at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and came out defeated.
At the last world championship, which took place in Japan in 2019, the Angolan women placed 15th, with the Netherlands winning the event.
This year's championship will consist of 32 teams.
