Sérgio Miguel won the Absolute Individual Chess Championship

Sérgio Miguel became, this Thursday, the national individual chess champion. The Fide master, from the Ditrov School, won the Absolute Individual National Chess Championship with 7.5 points.

The men's podium was completed by masters Catarino Domingos and David Silva, who won second and third place, accumulating seven points each.

Speaking to Angop, the winner classified the competition as difficult. However, Sérgio Miguel admitted that with dedication there were possibilities of accomplishing the established goals.

About the future, the 37 year old champion made it known that his wish is to win international competitions.

In the women's category, the victory went to Ednásia Júnior, Fide master from Macov Sport Club who won the nine games. The silver 'medal' was awarded to Delfina João while the bronze was won by Maria Domingos.

The winner, who is 19 years old, classified the victory as a "dream" that came true, writes Angop.

She said that her goal now is "to win the African Senior Female Championship to have the title of Grand Master", but that for this she needs "more training, study and sponsors.

According to Angop, in the competition, which took place between August 5 and 12, 62 athletes (42 male and 20 female) from several provinces of the country participated.
