Luanda nurses give 30 days for Ministry of Health to resolve claims

According to the secretary general of the Sindicato dos Enfermeiros, on Monday, health professionals from that area of ​​Luanda started the strike, but at the request of the employer, the strike was suspended, with a promise made, in a workers assembleia assembly, resolution of claims in the next 30 days.

Afonso Kileba said, in statements to Lusa news agency, that, on Monday, they received an invitation from the Luanda provincial health office for a dialogue between the parties.

"This meeting lasted six hours, it was difficult to find a consensus, then it was decided to hold a joint workers' assembly, so that the employer, together with the associates, could talk about their intentions to solve the problems" , he said.

The union leader stressed that the claim list is from last year, negotiated on February 17th, but, after this period, the employer did not comment.

"He was not even willing to resolve at least one of the points in the list of claims that had been negotiated at the time, including the lack of working conditions, namely the lack of expendable materials in the health units in the capital, lack of security", he listed.

The secretary general of the Union of Nurses underlined the importance of resolving the issue of safety, because many technicians, especially at night, are attacked by marginals and relatives of patients, for lack of expendable material in the health units.

"Because almost all health units do not have a security body capable of regulating the entry of personnel into the hospital. All family members, five to ten people, want to enter and not finding expendable material has been reason enough to attack the technicians. personally I was the target [of this situation], I had to jump over a three-meter wall in order to escape," he exemplified.

The list of claims also includes the lack of food and public competition to rise to category, taking into account that a high number of professionals increased their academic level, namely in the nursing, therapeutic diagnosis and other specialties in the health sector. , and so far are not promoted.

"According to information taken by the director of the cabinet, 8000 vacancies were made available for a public tender for updating in the capital, we hope that this happens in record time, which is why this assembly was necessary and he also said that in a record period of 15 days they would resolve the issue of safety and food", he stressed.

Afonso Kileba said that, given the promises, it was decided to suspend the strike for 30 days, so that the issues are resolved by the employer.

"The plenary unanimously decided that from the 18th of this month until the 18th of September things must be resolved. If it is not resolved within this period of time, it will resort again to a strike statement, but to stand up or suspend it will only be possible with the issues resolved in practice, it will continue until issues are resolved in practice without the promise of further moratoria," he said.
