Covid-19: four more deaths, 138 new cases and 193 recoveries in the country

The country has registered four more covid-19 associated deaths and 138 new cases in the past 24 hours, during which time 193 recoveries from the disease were also reported, health authorities announced Wednesday.

The new positive cases were recorded mostly in the province of Luanda (37), followed by the provinces of Moxico (24), Cunene (21), Huila (19), Lunda Sul (10), Uige (seven), Namibe (five), Benguela, Cabinda, Zaire (four each) and Bié, Malanje and Lunda Norte with one case each.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health, the four deaths, aged between 50 and 90 years, were registered in the provinces of Cunene, Malanje, Moxico and Huila.

In this period, laboratories processed 2040 samples by RT-PCR and the cumulative points to 821,071 processed samples with a positivity rate of 5.3 percent.

The health authorities report that 154 patients are hospitalized and 158 people are in institutional quarantine.

Angola now totals 43,158 cases, 1026 deaths, 2550 active and 39,582 recovered from the disease.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 4,247,231 deaths worldwide, among more than 199.5 million cases of infection by the new coronavirus, according to AFP's assessment based on official data.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in countries such as the UK, India, South Africa, Brazil and Peru.
