ANPG and Total E&P Angola sign production sharing contract for block 29

On July 30th, the National Agency of Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) and Total E&P Angola signed a production sharing contract for block 29, located in the Namibe Basin.

In a statement sent to VerAngola, ANPG said that under the terms of the contract Total E&P Angola is the operator of block 29, with a 42.8 percent stake. "Equinor, with a 22.8 percent stake, BP with 8.8 percent, Petronas with 5.6 percent and Sonangol P&P with 20 percent are the other companies that make up the contractor group".

The contract was signed on 2 August, the note said, adding that the operator is committed to "carrying out the work program already defined and approved," with the aim of "identifying potential resources in this new frontier basin of the Angolan offshore".

ANPG considers that this represents a "historic milestone" for the national oil sector and "for the constructive and open dialogue that has always been established between the national concessionaire and the operators working in Angola".

Total E&P Angola considered that the contract represents "another opportunity to expand its presence in a country it knows well and in which it has had a stable operation since 1953, and is in fact the main foreign operator in the sector, with over 1100 employees in full activity".

Block 29 is in deep water, has a surface area of 5700 square kilometers and is located in the Namibe Basin.
