Wheat production exceeded 300 tonnes in 2019. Betting on agriculture is to maintain

In 2019, wheat production grew by 18 per cent compared with the previous year.

:

Last year 61,000 tonnes more wheat was produced than in 2018. According to the figures presented by the Minister of Economy and Planning, Sérgio Santos, 272 thousand tons of wheat were produced in 2018, while in 2019 the production was set at 333 thousand tons.

In an interview with the Angolan Public Television (TPA), Sérgio Santos admitted that it is necessary to bet on people who intend to mill in Angola.

Sérgio Santos also said it was necessary to reduce imports and promote exports, because every dollar given abroad is a job created outside the country.

Following his thesis, the holder of the economic and planning portfolio stressed that there is a need to create jobs in the country and, for this, the economy must be diversified by investing in the sectors of agriculture and industry.

The minister also talked about the poultry sector: in 2018 the country spent about 419 million dollars with the import of 361 thousand tons of chicken. In 2019, Angola managed to lower that figure to 277 million dollars.

For this year, in the first half, Angola spent 50 million dollars on chicken imports.

Finally, he also addressed the Credit Support Programme, which is supporting the financing of 54 products under Prodesi. He assured that there is enough money in the state coffers to support the initiatives linked to this programme.
