Covid-19: Angola registers 5 more deaths and breaks record for infections in 24 hours

The country has registered a record number of covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, with 100 new cases and five more deaths, announced the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda.

The five deaths, which occurred "as a result of decompensated comorbidities", were of 59, 65, 64, 71 and 82 year old male patients, who were admitted to the Sacred Hope Clinic, Special Economic Zone, two at the Sunflower Clinic and one at the Barra do Kwanza hospital.

The 100 new cases, 82 males and 18 females, are aged between 10 and 83 years.

Two cases were diagnosed in Benguela and Soyo (Zaire province), imported from Luanda due to the violation of the health fence, the remaining 98 from Luanda province.

In the last 24 hours there have also been three more cases recovered.

Angola already has 1672 cases, with 75 deaths, 567 recovered and 1030 assets.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 727,000 deaths and infected more than 19.6 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

In Africa, there are 22,903 confirmed deaths in more than a million people infected in 55 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics from that continent.
