Covid-19: Africa passes the 20,000 dead in more than 957,000 cases

This Monday Africa passed the barrier of 20 thousand dead due to the covid-19, registering more than 957 thousand infected, according to the most recent data of the pandemic in the continent.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the death toll is 20,288, plus 368 in the last 24 hours, while the number of infected is 957,035, plus 12,585.

The number of recovered is 611,957, plus 9379 in the last 24 hours.

The largest number of cases and deaths of covid-19 continues to be registered in Southern Africa, with 535,720 infected and 8872 deaths.

In this region, South Africa, the most affected country on the continent, accounts for 511,485 infected and 8366 deaths.

The North African region, the second most affected by the pandemic, now has 162,495 infected and 6754 dead and in West Africa, the number of cases has risen to 130,189, with 1931 fatalities.

In the East Africa region, there are 79,703 cases and 1790 deaths, while the Central Africa region has 48,928 cases and 941 deaths.

Egypt is the second country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, accounting for 94,483 infected and 4865 deaths, following Algeria, which has 30,909 cases and 1218 fatalities.

Among the five most affected countries are Nigeria, which has 43,841 infected and 888 deaths, and Sudan, with 11,738 cases and 752 fatalities.

In relation to African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Cape Verde leads in number of cases (2547 cases and 24 deaths), followed by Guinea-Bissau (1981 cases and 26 deaths), Mozambique (1946 cases and 13 deaths) ), Angola (1199 infected and 55 dead) and São Tomé and Príncipe (871 cases and 15 dead).

Equatorial Guinea, which is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), has 4821 infected and 83 deaths.
