According to Ricardo de Abreu, the recent adjustment in fuel prices is the result of joint work between the different ministerial departments and is an action coordinated by the executive branch that also aims to ensure adjustments in operators' prices given the increase in their costs.
"[The increase in fuel prices] is an action that is being coordinated by the executive branch, but we also ensure that road transport and urban transport operators can somehow adjust their prices in line with the increase in costs", the minister told journalists in Luanda this Monday.
For the minister, fuels "have a very large weight in the transport cost structure".
And for this reason, he explained, there was "an alignment with the operators so that this adjustment would not be too heavy" for users' ability to use public urban transport, he argued, in statements on the sidelines of the National Conference on Angola's Preparation for the World Maritime Organization (IMO) audit.
As of this Monday, the fare for collective taxis, known as "candongueiros", has increased to 300 kwanzas per trip and that for urban buses has increased to 200 kwanzas per trip, according to a statement from the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).
The new fares come into effect after the increase in the price of diesel, which went from 300 to 400 kwanzas per litre as of 4 July, as part of the policy of progressively removing fuel subsidies.
For intercity passenger services, the fare adjustments will be defined by local authorities, taking into account the technical and operational criteria of each route.
