The official launch of the new edition of the competition was held this Thursday by the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women's Promotion.
"The Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women's Promotion announced, on the afternoon of Thursday, July 17th, at the Aníbal de Melo Press Center, the official opening of applications for the 2025 Women of Merit Award," reads a statement from the ministry, that VerAngola had access to.
Thus, the application process opens on the 20th of this month and will run until September 4th.
"Applications will run from July 20th to September 4th, 2025, and interested parties can register online at www.pnmm.ao, or in person at the Municipal and Provincial Offices of Social Action, Family and Gender Equality," the ministry announced.
This edition will cover 13 categories: 'Agriculture and Livestock'; 'Environment and Biodiversity'; 'Science and Technology'; 'Citizenship'; 'Social Communication'; 'Culture and Art'; 'Sport'; 'Education'; 'Entrepreneurship'; 'Fisheries'; 'Health'; 'Overcoming Challenges'; and 'Tourism'.
"The jury for this edition is chaired by journalist Luísa Fançony, a renowned figure in the Angolan media," the statement adds.
In statements at the launch of the award, Luísa Fançony emphasized the importance of this initiative.
"There are women who register directly on the website, and then the jury will review them. I think it must be a very interesting task, learning about the biography of a woman who cares about the community, about society, who gives everything to improve the lives of others. I think it's very interesting," she said, as quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).
"My encouragement is to encourage them to apply and to truly express their work in their applications, so that the jury can also be impartial and properly assess and reward those women who deserve it," she added.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for March of next year.
"The award aims to recognize and distinguish the merit, excellence, competence, resilience, and impact of Angolan women on the country's economic, social, cultural, and community development," the ministry further stated.
