The Minister of State for Social Affairs, Maria do Rosário Bragança, attended the gala, which was held by the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women (MASFAMU). According to a statement from MASFAMU, to which VerAngola had access, the gala took place in Luanda, with the purpose of rewarding Angolan women who stood out in their areas of activity.
"The Ministry of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women held, on the evening of Friday, March 28, in Luanda, the gala of the National Women of Merit Award, with the aim of rewarding Angolan women who stand out in various sectors of society and contribute significantly to the country's progress", reads the note.
On the occasion, Maria do Rosário Bragança highlighted the importance of this initiative. "This third edition was attended by the Minister of State for Social Affairs, Maria do Rosário Bragança, who praised the relevance of the initiative in promoting gender equality and recognizing the role of women in the country's development," says the statement.
The Minister of State also considered that women play a fundamental role in society, as they are educators and stabilizers, having asked recognized women to continue to carry out their functions diligently and altruistically, for the development of the country, writes Angop.
Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, Minister of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women, also spoke, and "highlighted that the National Women of Merit Award is consolidating itself not only as a form of recognition, but also as a tradition, throughout its three years of uninterrupted existence, in which exemplary women are praised who stand out for their extraordinary contribution in their respective areas of activity who, even far from the spotlight, dedicate their lives to making the country great."
Nine women were the winners of the aforementioned edition. In the 'Agriculture' category, Maria Chulo, from Huambo province, was recognized, while the 'Citizenship' category was won by Maria Rosa da Costa Pedro, from Luanda.
Solange Caetano Feijó (Luanda) won the 'Culture and Arts' category; Vera Justina Quitério (Cuanza Sul) won the 'Education' category; and Regina Jones Caetano (Cuanza Sul) was the winner in the 'Entrepreneurship' category.
The list of winners also includes Maria de Fátima Falcão (Cuanza Sul), Maria Deolinda Magalhães (Cuanza Sul), Maria Lima de Menezes Antunes (Huíla) and Luísa João Mendonça (Luanda), who won the categories of 'Livestock', 'Fishing and Environment', 'Health' and 'Overcoming', respectively.
A trophy, certificate of merit and 1,500,000 kwanzas to implement projects were the prizes that the winners took home, according to Angop.
The gala was attended by high-ranking government officials, such as the Minister of State and Chief of the Military Household of the President of the Republic, Francisco Furtado, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino de Azevedo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Cármen dos Santos, the Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, as well as the vice-president of the MPLA, Mara Quiosa, and the deputy Luísa Damião.
Names such as Don Caetano, Edna Matias, Gingas, among others, livened up the gala.
