'Um Médico só para Si': project aims to make healthcare more accessible and closer to citizens

The 'Um Médico só para Si' project will be launched and implemented by Aliva, with the aim of assigning a family doctor to each user, an initiative that will make healthcare more accessible and closer to citizens.

In a statement sent to VerAngola, Aliva announced that it "will launch and implement the 'Um Médico só para Si' project, which aims to assign a family doctor to each user, making healthcare more accessible and ensuring personalized, continuous care tailored to individual needs over time."

According to the company, this project aims to "establish a direct and personalized connection between each user and a family doctor, who becomes the primary point of contact for any healthcare needs within the Aliva universe."

The project will be implemented in phases. Initially, the focus will be on Aliva registered customers who have not undergone any clinical procedures in the last year.

"In the first phase, until the end of 2025, the project will be implemented as a pilot, focusing on clients registered with Aliva who have not undergone any clinical procedures (consultations or exams) in the last 12 months. Other selection criteria for the pilot project are: prioritizing segments with higher risk or clinical value; users with a history of chronic diseases (hypertension, diabetes, etc.); age over 40; women of childbearing age; and users who have been seen by General and Family Medicine in the past," the statement reads.

Starting at the beginning of next year, the project will be extended to "everyone, with family doctors assigned to each user seen by Aliva."

The idea behind this project, according to Josemar Lima, a General and Family Medicine physician at Aliva, is to strengthen "client proximity" and promote health literacy.

"By implementing this project, we aim to strengthen our connection with customers and promote health literacy, creating long-term clinical relationships and facilitating informed decision-making. We intend to reinforce Aliva's positioning as a close, human, and preventative healthcare brand," explained the physician.

Furthermore, the project also aims to "increase the frequency of service use by users with a history of low recurrence, improve retention and satisfaction rates over time, and reinforce the perceived value of the Aliva brand as a continuous and reliable healthcare partner."

According to Aliva, the project is inspired by "international practices implemented in the private sector, such as the United Kingdom, where models similar to the National Health Service have been adapted to the private sector, placing the family doctor as a key element in the integrated and preventive management of the client's health."

According to Josemar Lima, with this initiative, Aliva aims to adapt this model to the Angolan context: "Aliva innovates by adapting this model to the Angolan context, making it more accessible and with a strong focus on literacy and genuine proximity. It's more than a consultation: it's a relationship of trust, continuity, and proximity."

Thus, within the scope of the aforementioned project, "each Aliva client, active or inactive, will be assigned a family doctor, based on their medical history, preferences, and the professional's availability," the statement states, adding that the client will be informed of "the doctor's name, institutional contact details, and available appointment times. The healthcare professional will have access to the patient's medical history and will be responsible for monitoring and proposing personalized care plans, preventive exams, and referrals when necessary."

Josemar Lima considered that this model provides "continuous clinical monitoring."

"This model provides continuous clinical monitoring, without the need to re-explain the patient's history at each visit, and trust in a medical reference figure who has known the patient over time. Furthermore, it also establishes an emotional and rational connection with the healthcare service, consolidating more humane, attentive, and preventative care," the physician stated.
