According to a statement from Petro, to which VerAngola had access, the 'tricolores' are part of group A.

"Petro de Luanda's main basketball team competes in the preliminary phase of the 34th edition of the FIBA World Intercontinental Cup, classified in group A, with Unicaja from Spain and Al Riyadi from Lebanon, in a competition that will take place at the Sports Hub pavilion, in Singapore, between the 12th and 15th of September of the current year", reads the statement.

Petro de Luanda, five-time national champion, qualified for this "most important club competition in the world", due to having won the last edition of the African Basketball League (BAL).

In series B, says the statement, there are "Quimsa from Argentina, the NBA G League (representative of the US Development League) and the Tasmania Jack Jumpers, from Australia".

According to the statement, Petro will have the "privilege of competing in the Intercontinental Cup, precisely in the edition in which it truly takes on a global dimension, by including (for the first time) Oceania".

The preliminary stage of the competition – which takes place annually – will be played in "a round of all against all, with the winners of each group competing directly in the final". The second teams will play against each other to determine the third place and "the last ones will fight for fifth place".

On the eve of the final, several figures from the sport will be distinguished by entering the FIBA 2024 'Hall of Fame'.

"The highlight goes to Reggie Miller from the USA, Predrag Stojakovic from Serbia, Danira Nakic-Bilic from Croatia, Romain Sato from the Central African Republic, among others", points out the statement.

It is worth mentioning that two Angolans are part of the 'Hall of Fame'. They are Jean-Jacques da Conceição and Ângelo Vitoriano.
