According to the EU ambassador to Angola, Rosário Bento Pais, funding for justice should improve the performance and professionalism of this system in the country and its actors.
"We are talking about 25 million euros to support justice and good governance in the next project, when the one that is taking place, within the scope of PRO.REACT – Project to Support the Strengthening of the National Asset Confiscation System in Angola – there are two million (euros), so there will be a great opportunity to extend the support that has been provided in the continuity of the projects", said the diplomat.
Rosário Bento Pais, speaking as part of a working meeting held this Monday, in Luanda, with the presiding judge of the Supreme Court of Angola, Joel Leonardo, noted that the implementation of PRO.REACT involves three actions.
Improving the performance and professionalism of the justice system, translated into institutional strengthening of justice, strengthening the fight against organized crime, with emphasis on money laundering and the fight against corruption, asset recovery, and improving electronic justice constitute the three axes of the program.
Judge Joel Leonardo pointed to the need to modernize the justice system in Angola and the "unavoidable urgency" of digitalizing Angolan courts, given the new normative realities, such as asset recovery, money laundering and the ongoing justice reform in the country.
"In short, it is our desire to modernize the judicial system and seriously invest in training and learning to raise the technical level of our magistrates and court officials", highlighted the magistrate.
The reform of justice and law, the impact of PRO.REACT on the courts and the challenges of combating corruption, money laundering and asset recovery will be analyzed at this meeting.
