According to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, this information was made known, this Wednesday, to the President of the Republic by Cremilda Rangel, president of the Angolan Cycling Federation.

Speaking to the press, this Wednesday, "at the Presidential Palace, where she was received by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, the federative leader said she had requested support from the Head of State to host the competition in the country", reads the note.

According to Cremilda Rangel, "the audience served to talk about the state of the sport in the country and internationally, with the President of the Republic being a lover and practitioner of the sport".

"On the occasion, the three national road champions, absolute and female, were presented to the President of the Republic, as well as members of teams and training schools for the sport", says the note.

At the meeting, the champions took the opportunity to deliver "the medals won in the last African championship" to João Lourenço, while the junior cyclists offered "official jerseys that represent the sport".

Igor Silva, national road champion, speaking to journalists, said that "he hopes to carry the flag of Angola at the Olympic Games and work with younger people for the growth of the sport", reads the statement.

"If all goes well, according to this cyclist from the 'Jair Transportes' School, he will participate in the next Olympic Games with a well-prepared team, if only the Angolan Cycling Federation does its part", the statement reads.

In turn, Veni José, representative of the Cycling Center of Kilamba Centrality, "considered the meeting relevant", having stated "that the Statesman, as a prominent fan of the sport, has accompanied and supported the work of cyclists".

José Crispim, athlete from Clube Desportivo do Kamba da Bicicleta do Zango 3, also expressed his "satisfaction with the gesture" of the head of state. "In his view, with the moral support of the President of the Republic, more people will be able to believe in cycling in Angola and leverage the sport", adds the statement.

According to the CIPRA note, "Kilson and Dilo, two teenagers who practice the sport, who already had the opportunity to pedal" with João Lourenço, also attended the Presidential Palace.
