João Lourenço pays two-day visit to Benguela

The President of the Republic begins, this Monday, a two-day visit to the province of Benguela. His trip will take place this Monday afternoon and is related to the “concession of rail services and support logistics for the Lobito Corridor”.

According to Luís Fernando, secretary for Communication and Press Affairs of the President of the Republic, in Lobito, in addition to João Lourenço, the presidents of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo will also be present.

"On Monday afternoon, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, left Luanda for a two-day mission in Benguela province. The visit of the head of state is related to the concession of rail and logistic services to support the Lobito Corridor, which will be symbolized by a ceremony that will bring together the Presidents of the Republic of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC) in the city of Lobito", said the official, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

The heads of state of Zambia and the DRC "are expected" this Monday morning at Catumbela airport (Benguela), added Luís Fernando.

As for Tuesday, the agenda reserves "a wide program to mark the start of the concession of strategic services of the Benguela Railway, with explanations on how all this should work, which companies joined in consortium for a modern work, aimed at the expansion and progress of that important route for the flow of ore, goods, and, naturally, the movement of people as well", he advanced, quoted by RNA.

Luís Fernando also informed that "at the end of the afternoon" on Tuesday, the three heads of state will return to the "respective capitals".

João Lourenço participated in the ECCAS Summit in Libreville

On Saturday, the President of the Republic traveled to Libreville, in Gabon, where he attended the 23rd Summit of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

According to a note from the Presidency of the Republic, which VerAngola had access to, "on the table were, among other topics, the issue of ECCAS funding and a rigorous assessment of the political and security situation in the region".
