Brussels approves the creation of a company in Angola by Mota Engil and Trafigura

This Wednesday, the European Commission approved the creation of the company Lobito Atlantic Holdings S.A., a full-function joint venture between Grupo Trafigura PTE Ltd ("Trafigura") and ME Lobito SGPC, LDS ("Mota-Engil"), from Portugal.

:

Lobito Atlantic Holdings S.A. will build, maintain and operate a railway line in Lobito, Angola, following the concession, on July 20, 2022, of railway services and logistical support for the Lobito corridor, a fundamental route for connecting the mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Angolan port of Lobito and to international markets.

The concession by the Government of Angola, for a period of 30 years, extendable for another 20 years, was made to a consortium that includes Trafigura, Mota-Engil Engenharia e Construção África SA ("Mota-Engil") and Vecturis SA, a independent rail operator.

Trafigura is an independent commodities and raw materials trader specializing in the oil, minerals and metals markets. Mota-Engil is a multinational company that operates mainly in the construction and management of infrastructures in various sectors.

Brussels concluded that the deal does not raise any competition rules concerns, as the joint venture will not be active in the European Economic Area.
