On the occasion, the minister "showed himself satisfied" with the level of physical execution of the works, says a note from the Government of Cunene, which VerAngola had access to.

The holder of the Energy and Water portfolio also said that the "two dams will be complemented with the construction of two channels, one that starts from Ndué to the locality of Embudu, municipality of Cuanhama, in an extension of 75 kilometers with the construction of chimpacas in the its route" and "another that will transport water from the Calucuve to the towns of Ondjiva, over a distance of 100 kilometres, also with the construction of chimbacas".

In addition to the deadline for completing the dams, according to the statement, other deadlines for filling them were also mentioned. Thus, the official said that at the end of this year the filling of the Ndué dam will be completed and by the end of next year the filling of the Calucuve dam will be completed.

"He added that by 2025, the dams will all be completed with their respective channels, and at the end of this year the Ndué dam will be filled and by the end of 2024 the Calucuve dam will be filled", reads the note.

The works – which are taking place at a good pace – were visited by the minister and the governor of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa, who on the occasion "received detailed explanations from the contractors and the inspection of the works", adds the note.

Regarding the physical execution of both dams, that of Ndué is around 20 percent, while that of the Calucuve dam is around 14.70 percent.

"In charge of the construction company Shinohydro, the Ndué dam will have a storage capacity of 170 thousand cubic meters. The Calucuve dam, in charge of the Omatapalo Mota-Engil consortium, will have a storage capacity of 140,000 cubic metres", the statement also says.
