João Baptista Borges says that the Ondjiva/Santa Clara water pipeline will be ready in September

September was the month appointed for the completion of works on the Ondjiva/Santa Clara water pipeline (Cunene province). The guarantee is from João Baptista Borges, Minister of Energy and Water, who was speaking this Monday, at the end of a visit to the undertaking.

Despite the constraints, the works are progressing well, the minister said. Cited by Angop, the holder of the Energy and Water portfolio mentioned the progress of the work, noting that of the estimated 45 kilometers of pipeline, only six are missing.

This conduct, in addition to increasing the level of pumping of water originating from the Xangongo plant, will also make it possible to establish new household connections on the border of Santa Clara and in the seat of the municipality of Namacunde, the minister said, quoted by Angop.

"With regard to the supply of water in Ondjiva, there is progress as more inhabitants of this city have water at home and what we intend to do is to continue this work until all houses in Ondjiva can have a tap with water at home", said the holder of the Energy and Water portfolio, quoted by Public Television of Angola (TPA).

Among other aspects, João Baptista Borges also spoke about the rehabilitation of existing artesian holes. "The solution for Chiede and other communes, in short, also small towns that exist in Cunene, will undoubtedly be the rehabilitation of the artesian wells that already exist, some of which have been vandalized for many years, stopped due to lack of maintenance, we will have to rehabilitate these holes and thus provide water," he said, quoted by TPA.

Armando Lopes, director of projects at Imbondex Constructions, made it known that the contract – which started in August 2021 – has a physical and financial execution of around 81 percent and 79 percent, respectively. Furthermore, quoted by Angop, he left the guarantee that the charges will be carried out on the scheduled dates, making it known that 39 kilometers of the pipeline have already been completed.

According to Angop, this new conduit has a diameter of 375 centimeters and replaces the current one with 250 which is deteriorated, aiming at improving the pumping of water to the citizens of Namacunde and the border of Santa Clara, and the undertaking is expected to connection of 1500 home connections, which will benefit more than 33 thousand residents.

It should be noted that the Minister of Energy and Water has been carrying out, since this Monday, a working day in Cunene, where he will X-ray the various projects in the sector in the province.
