Angola wins DRC and advances to the quarter-finals without defeats in the preliminary phase of the CAN

The senior men's national handball team secured, this Wednesday, passage to the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), after beating the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), by 32-31.

Despite the close match, the national team managed to prevail and go to halftime to win by 18-16.

However, decisions were only made in the last seconds of the game. About 30 seconds before the final whistle, the national team that had possession of the ball executed the attack and canceled the attempt of its counterpart to equalize the match.

With this victory, Angola remains undefeated for the quarter-finals, after having won all three matches of the preliminary round.

Furthermore, with this Wednesday's triumph, Angola finished first in the group with six points. Although the exit was defeated to DRC, which was in second place in the table with four points, it also qualified for the next phase.

Along the way were Senegal and Zambia, with two and zero points, respectively.

Angola returns to the field on Friday. The quarter-final game will be against Cape Verde, at 6:30 pm.
