Portugal has six thousand Angolans registered to vote in the elections

The Angolan ambassador to Portugal said this Thursday that the number of Angolans registered to vote in Lisbon and Porto is around 6,000, out of a total of around 40,000 Angolans living in Portugal.

:

"The number of Angolans registered in Portugal to vote in Portugal is around six thousand", said Carlos Alberto Fonseca, noting that the numbers are approximate and result from the registration process launched in January and which ended at the end of March.

According to information from the embassy provided to Lusa on the sidelines of the Eurafrica Forum, which takes place this Thursday and Friday in Carcavelos, on the outskirts of Lisbon, there are around 4,500 Angolan voters registered in Lisbon and around 1,500 in Porto, a total around 40 thousand in Portugal.

Asked about the impact and possible instability in the elections due to the case that divides the family of the former President of the Republic José Eduardo dos Santos regarding the burial place, the ambassador declined to comment much on the case: "I don't think there can be instability , there are issues that are important, but the electoral process occupies a large part of our concerns, it is very important, but they are two different cases", he said.

Speaking to Lusa and RTP Africa, Carlos Alberto Fonseca said that the dispute over the burial site "is being treated at the appropriate level", declining to elaborate.

Regarding the elections, the ambassador admitted that "under normal conditions there can be a more exalted mood at a moment", but added that "then everything falls into reality" and was confident that the electoral process leading up to the general elections on 24 August will proceed normally.

"It's not the first electoral process we've carried out, it's the fifth process we've carried out, naturally the environment is campaigning on both sides, then everything will run within normal parameters, we already have experience in holding elections", he stressed. the ambassador.

Angolans abroad will be able to vote for the first time in the general elections to be held in August.
