"We are all following, what we can say is that the trajectory of this unavoidable figure in the history of Angola deserves that he be paid tribute to the height of his journey, to the height of the achievements he developed here in the country", said Luísa Damião, after paying tribute to the former Angolan president, who died on Friday in Barcelona, ​​Spain.

Luísa Damião highlighted that the Angolan law on the statute of the ex-president and ex-vice-president establishes that José Eduardo dos Santos "must deserve a dignified funeral".

"And all Angolans are paying this tribute here in our country and we are waiting for the outcome of the negotiations", stressed the MPLA vice-president, who highlighted the historical path of José Eduardo dos Santos, who was head of state for 38 years.

"We came to pay tribute to a politician who was a builder of bridges, a promoter of peace and national reconciliation, but who also stood out as a skillful diplomat who, in times of the cold war and many adversities, always knew how to position himself. his dedication and dedication and his personal commitment to the peace process earned him the nickname of architect of peace", he underlined.

In turn, the secretary general of the MPLA, Paulo Pombolo, considered "this son of Angola a statesman of international standing", to which the party wanted to pay a "heartfelt tribute".

"The message I left is this same as his historical trajectory, the unquestionable contribution he makes to the history of Angola, who will always be remembered as a patriot who dedicated himself not only to the MPLA cause, but also to the cause of Angola and of Angolans and will obviously be remembered for his enormous achievements, especially the fact that he contributed to unity and cohesion within our party and brought peace and national reconciliation to all Angolans", he stressed.

Paulo Pombolo highlighted the importance of José Eduardo dos Santos for the party, of which he has been leader since 1979, stating that the former statesman was not "a simple person for the MPLA", he is the party's president emeritus.

"That the thousands of MPLA militants, represented at the last congress where he was present with us, decided to assign him that category [emeritus president]", he added.

"President José Eduardo dos Santos is our history and we believe that we will continue to work for common sense, in the sense that this Angolan people, more than 35 million inhabitants, actually pay this profound tribute to our leader, the one who for 38 years directed the destiny of this country", he observed.

To the family, Paulo Pombolo expressed feelings of condolence and to the Angolan people he appealed: "Wait serenely for the body of our president, of our leader, to come to the country to pay him this tribute he deserves".
