Constitutional Court has not received any impeachment of any candidacy

The Constitutional Court has not received any impeachment to the candidacies of the parties that compete in the general elections scheduled for 24 August, the entity's president told Lusa.

:

Speaking to Lusa, Laurinda Cardoso, said that the deadline for contesting any list or candidate ended without any objections being presented.

The posting of the lists aims to provide the legal possibility for candidacies to be challenged, which can be done by any party or interested party that verifies the ineligibility of a candidate or other irregularities.

The lists were posted on the 27th of June and the candidacies could be challenged within 72 hours, a period that ended at the end of the 30th of June.

The Constitutional Court is involved in several stages of the electoral process, namely the reception and validation of candidacies from parties and coalitions.

However, the deadline given to parties to correct any shortcomings in their candidacies ends on Tuesday.

The court "has already made a survey of some nonconformities - very basic things from the point of view of documentation and authenticity of some documents - and these parties and coalitions, almost all of them have been notified to conform to these inadequacies", which will have to happen until Tuesday Monday, indicated Laurinda Cardoso.

Seven political parties and a coalition are running for the August 24 general election, in what will be the fifth ballot in Angola's history.

In the electoral race are the political parties Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), Social Renewal Party (PRS), National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), National Patriotic Alliance (APN), Humanist Party (PH) and Nationalist Justice Party in Angola (P-NJango) and Broad Convergence and Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE).
