According to the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, the choice of the Luanda refinery is essentially aimed at taking advantage of synergies with the existing one, namely equipment, qualified labor, and savings in investment costs.
In his speech, at the inauguration of the gasoline production complex at the Luanda refinery, Diamantino Azevedo underlined that a bio-refinery is considered one of the key technologies for decarbonization, which will give rise to a multisectoral value chain, with the integration of agriculture and other industries.
"It will bring investments in agriculture, because it will be based on the production of castor, which will feed the bio-refinery and, as you can see, is yet another contribution of the hydrocarbon sector to the diversification of the economy", said the minister in statements to the press.
Regarding the memorandum, the director general of Eni's Natural Resources Division, Guido Brusco, highlighted the project's sustainable and environmental initiatives, such as the rehabilitation of the combined cycle, which will be powered by hydrogen and the electricity now produced by recycling gas as a net reduction in polluting carbon dioxide emissions.
"For all these reasons, I want to congratulate the Angolan Government, the board of directors of Sonangol and the Luanda refinery, its managers and workers for granting and carrying out here in this place a project of such great strategic importance for the national economy," he said.
