Covid-19: Angola with five deaths, 189 new cases and 84 recoveries in 24 hours

Angola registered 189 new cases of covid-19 in 24 hours, as well as five deaths and 84 recoveries from the disease, public health authorities announced Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 76 were registered in Cunene province, 55 in Lunda Norte, 27 in Luanda, seven in Benguela, seven in Moxico, six in Huambo, four in Huila, two in Cabinda, two in Lunda Sul and one each in Bié, Malanje and Zaire, with ages between 5 months and 84 years, 103 being males and 86 females, said the State Secretary for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, in a statement.

According to the health authorities five deaths have been registered, of which three in Kwanza Sul, one in Huambo and one in Malanje. The victims were aged between 2 months and 60 years old and three were male and two female.

Were considered recovered from the disease 84 people, of which 66 in Luanda, 16 in Huambo, one in Huila and one in Zaire, between 4 months and 83 years.

Angola now totals 40,327 cases since the pandemic began, including 946 deaths and 34,584 recovered from the disease, with 4797 cases still active.

Among the active cases, 12 are in critical condition (one more than Tuesday) and seven are in serious condition (one less than the previous balance).

Laboratories processed 3346 samples in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 762,162 samples, with a cumulative positivity rate of 5.3 percent.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 4,053,041 deaths worldwide, among more than 187.7 million cases of infection with the new coronavirus, according to the most recent tally by Agence France-Presse.

According to the latest data from the African Union's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the continent surpassed six million cases Wednesday and is immersed in an aggressive third wave of the disease.

The disease is transmitted by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
