Covid-19: Angola with 102 more cases, but no deaths in the last 24 hours

Angola has recorded 102 more cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, but no deaths in this period, health authorities said Thursday.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health, the new cases were reported in Cunene (27), Luanda (20), Lunda Norte (16), Moxico (seven), Benguela (six), Huambo (five), Cabinda (four), Namibe (four), Bié, Huíla, Zaire (with three each), Uíge (two), Lunda Sul and Malanje (one each), with ages between 11 months and 70 years, being 49 males and 53 females.

No deaths were reported in this period and 53 people recovered from the disease, aged between 4 and 75 years.

The laboratories processed 2976 samples by RT-PCR, with a cumulative total of 673,380 samples processed with a positivity rate of 5.9 percent.

The updated epidemiological picture points to 39,593 cases of covid-19 in Angola, of which 925 deaths, 34,100 recovered from the disease, and 4568 active, with 14 patients in critical condition and 15 severe.

There are 81 people hospitalized and another 185 in institutional quarantine.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 4,004,996 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 185 million cases of infection with the new coronavirus, according to the most recent tally by Agence France-Presse.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in countries such as the United Kingdom, India or South Africa.
