Angola considers implementing sanitary passport

The implementation of the health passport may become a reality in the country. At a time when debates around this issue are already taking place, the government is already making preparations to install electronic security systems in air travel.

Speaking at the meeting between the Multisectoral Commission for the Prevention and Combat of Covid-19 and representatives of the political parties with parliamentary seats, the Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu, indicated that the country is working to ensure its enrollment in the IATA Travel Pass.

The IATA Travel Pass was launched by the International Air Transport Association and concerns an electronic instrument that gathers a set of "secure information" about the passenger, both at the migration and health levels.

Cited by Jornal de Angola, the Transport Minister explained that this issue has raised, in some countries, constitutional questions, because of the obligation of people to be or not vaccinated.

"Although there is a sense of collective vaccination, there are countries where this right is optional," he said.

The minister also took the opportunity to talk about the overcrowding in public transport. According to Jornal de Angola, Ricardo de Abreu denied responsibility, indicating that the coordination is made by the Provincial Government of Luanda and security agencies.

However, the governor admitted that the control of overcrowding in public transportation has not been an easy task, because of the lack of means. He also took the opportunity to call on the parties to play a "leading role" in limiting the movement of people in order to avoid crowds in transport.
