The province of Bengo has 14 secondary schools, which absorb 10,633 students, and 80 per cent of them have rehabilitated infrastructures, with toilets and rooms with running water.
According to the director of the provincial office of Education of Bengo, Manuel Fernando "Kurizemba", the expectation for the resumption of classes in the province is great and the process of preparation of the conditions counts on the total involvement of teachers and parents.
"The second phase of creating conditions is focused on the purchase of soap, alcohol gel, masks and, in this field, we are working with those in charge for the purchase of masks, in a quantity also for students from needy families," he told Lusa.
He also assured that the acquisition of sprays and visors for teachers is also underway, a process that has the support and commitment of the provincial teachers' union.
In the southern central province of Bié, the authorities are ensuring that biosecurity conditions for returning to secondary school are also safeguarded.
In a statement to Lusa, the provincial director of education in Bié, Evaristo Vitangui, reported that 75 per cent of the district's secondary schools have running water and the rest are the result of some "completely surmountable breakdown with actions already underway".
Regarding the guarantee of soap and masks for the 34,577 students enrolled in this cycle of education, work is underway with social partners and the provincial health office, which "is helping a lot".
"But we're focusing on bleach for chemical solutions for hand washing, in relation to the masks we talk to the parents and the control and follow-up measures take place," he stressed.
For these authorities, the resumption of secondary education in their respective provinces will serve as a "barometer" for the return to school in the first cycle of primary education, scheduled for 27 July, attended mostly by children.
Classes in general and university education in the country were suspended in March before the President, João Lourenço, declared a state of emergency, which took place between 27 March and 25 May.
Angola, which has been living in a public disaster since May 26, has 291 cases of covid-19, of which 179 are active, 97 have recovered and 15 have died.
The decree that determines the situation of public calamity foresees the resumption of activity in higher education and in the second cycle of secondary education from 13 July although "dependent on the evolution of the epidemiological situation".
